Distribution BESS

Sustainable Energy Infrastructure (SEI) and ACEnergy (ACE) have entered into a development agreement to build, own, and operate a portfolio of DBESS facilities across regional Australia.

Our DBESS portfolio addresses the urgent need for storage solutions to support renewable energy integration and enhance grid reliability, as highlighted by AEMO’s Step Change Scenario and CSIRO’s Energy Storage Roadmap. These scalable and efficient systems can be rapidly deployed to areas where they are most needed.

DBESS installations offer multiple advantages, including increasing network capacity for rooftop solar, enhancing the value of rooftop PV, reducing electricity market prices during peak times, and optimising grid integration.

  • Increase network utility value: Enhances network hosting capacity for Distributed Energy Resources (DER).
  • Enhance rooftop PV value: Reduces voltage-driven curtailment of rooftop solar panels.
  • Reduce electricity market prices: Lowers market prices by balancing supply and demand.
  • Optimise grid integration: Reduces peak demand on bulk supply points by aligning with network demand.

The DBESS projects are strategically placed in regional Victoria, near existing infrastructure and zone substations. This ensures optimal grid integration and provides significant benefits to these areas, promoting grid stability and supporting the installation of rooftop solar. These projects contribute to a more sustainable and economically viable energy future for local communities.

Project Details: Phase One

  • Comprising 7 (seven) ~5MW DBESS projects with 2-hour batteries.
  • Total Capacity: ~35MW/70MWh.
  • Locations: Regional Victoria.
  • Financial close: Completed 2024
  • Construction and Commissioning: Managed by ACLE Services (ACLE) on a full-wrap Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) basis. Construction activities began in June 2024, with progressive commissioning planned to July 2025.
  • Long-Term Operations and Maintenance (O&M): Provided by ACLE under a long-term O&M contract.

For the most recent DBESS portfolio update, see our press release.

Future phases of the portfolio rollout are expected to deliver an additional 20 DBESS projects with a combined capacity of 100MW/200MWh across South Australia, Victoria, and New South Wales.
